Is it better to cook a roast on high or low in a crock pot?
Cook for 8-10 hours. If you are a bit short on time, you can turn the slow cooker on to ? high ? for one hour to get things boiling, then turn back down to low. I do NOT recommend cooking this on high for 4-5 hours. You can if you want, it will be cooked, but it will not be as tender!

Is 4 hours on high the same as 8 hours on low?
I find, especially with things like pot roast recipes, that both cooking methods do the trick, but 8 hours on low makes for a more fall-off-the-bone shredded meat whereas 4 hours on high makes a meat that needs to be sliced (but is equally delicious.)
Should I flip my roast in crock pot?
I?ve never seen any benefit to turning a roast. If you want to minimize the crust, use a roaster with a lid or a roasting bag, but the rule is always low even temperature and slow roasting for the best meat. A crock pot is also a good way to slowly braise a tough roast.

If you ?ve added liquid to the cooker, the food may get more tender if it?s cooked for too long, because the liquid doesn?t boil away like it does in other methods of cooking.
